I LOVE PIZZA! (Don’t most people?)
I’ve had all kinds of pizza in all kinds of places, and enjoyed every one. Here are some of the more memorable ones:
- Cornwall BBQ‘s All Dressed with Bacon and Onions—definitely decadent, but that much more delicious when it’s occasional. I grew up in Cornwall, Ontario, and this was a family favourite. I visit there when I can, as I drive through the area from Kitchener/Waterloo to Montréal.
- Anna‘s Spéciale Anna. We lived in Rosemere, Québec for a few years, and this was my favourite place to go with my friends Bill and Melia. It’s another place I try to hit when I can!
- Reindeer pizza in Helsinki, Finland. I attended a conference in assyriology there in 2000. Absolutely awesome (the pizza and the conference).
- Artichoke pizza at La Bussola in Lahr, Germany, while my parents where there and I was visiting. I’m normally pretty traditional when it comes to pizza (what’s this artsy stuff doing here?) but I must say, I was impressed!
And of course, like anyone else, I like to make my own creations. So I’m happy to provide some basic ideas for you! So check these out:
- Let’s start at the top (or bottom, rather), with pizza dough, or, for the sick individuals (a.k.a. the more adventurous like myself), dough with cauliflower (which works with broccoli, too. Sorry, Tom Smothers!!)
- Next, add a layer of your favourite sauce … the default being, of course, the old tomato favourite. We’ve used curry sauce, too …, but I don’t yet have a recipe for that (if you’re secretly grateful, go find another site!!).
- For the moment, I’ll leave toppings up to you, because … you don’t wanna know!
